2026 Updates for New York SLP Candidates
- New York has 31 CAA-recognized SLP master’s programs — second-largest state count nationally, behind only Texas. 27 hold full accreditation; 4 are in CAA candidate status. The program density is concentrated in the NYC metro and the SUNY system upstate.
- Four programs entered or recently graduated from candidacy. Binghamton University and D’Youville University entered CAA candidacy in 2024; St. Bonaventure University entered in 2025. Stony Brook achieved full accreditation in February 2025 after candidacy from 2020.
- New York has not enacted the ASLP-IC compact. SLPs moving to or from New York need full state licensure through the NY State Education Department Office of the Professions rather than using compact privileges. Track the ASLP-IC homepage for any future change.

Teachers College, Columbia University
CAA-accredited since October 1968, one of the oldest tenures in the country. Located in Morningside Heights; the program runs through Teachers College’s historic education school and emphasizes research-informed practice.
New York University
Accredited since 1983 (after a complex history dating to 1967). NYU runs both an on-campus MS in Greenwich Village and the Speech@NYU online program at $1,900-2,000 per credit. Among the highest-cost programs in the country.
CUNY, Hunter College
CAA-accredited since April 1973. Public NYC institution on the Upper East Side; the program lives in the Department of Communication Sciences and serves a diverse Manhattan-based cohort.
CUNY, Lehman College
CAA-accredited since September 1981. Located in the Bronx, Lehman serves a heavily bilingual urban catchment and the program emphasizes bilingual Spanish-English clinical practice.
Pace University

Touro University
CAA-accredited since May 2003. Touro’s Brooklyn campus runs the program through its Graduate School of Education.
Iona University
Achieved full CAA accreditation in March 2019 after candidacy from 2013. Private Catholic institution in New Rochelle (Westchester County); accessible to NYC commuters via Metro-North.
Mercy University
CAA-accredited since July 2003. Located in Dobbs Ferry, Westchester County, with additional locations across the NYC metro.
New York Medical College
CAA-accredited since April 2002. The Valhalla-based program is unusual for being housed in a medical college, giving students direct access to medical-setting clinical placements through NYMC’s hospital affiliations.
Long Island
Adelphi University
CAA-accredited since January 1972. Private institution in Garden City, Nassau County. Long-established program serving the NYC and Long Island clinical placement networks.
Hofstra University
CAA-accredited (continuously since October 1982, with an earlier accreditation period 1975-1980). Hofstra’s Hempstead campus runs the program through its School of Health Professions and Human Services.
LIU Post
CAA-accredited since March 1993. The Brookville campus runs the SLP program in suburban Nassau County. LIU Post serves students who prefer a quieter campus setting with NYC metro placement access.
LIU Brooklyn
CAA-accredited since September 1998. LIU’s urban Brooklyn campus offers an alternative within the LIU system for students who want NYC metro placement access from the program’s base.
Molloy University
CAA-accredited since February 2015 after candidacy from 2011. Private Catholic institution in Rockville Centre, Nassau County.
Stony Brook University
Achieved full CAA accreditation in February 2025 after candidacy from 2020. The Southampton-campus program is one of the newest fully-accredited SLP master’s in NY and is part of the SUNY system.
